A Note From Beth

My Apologies for Disappearing

Last week something happened.  I apologize for letting it interfere in getting
last weeks ezine out.  This is the visual I'd like to share that seems to work
for me and it might help someone else.

Without going into details I felt like I had been put
into a huge slingshot...

and propelled into the universe......completely out of control.

The ability to sit down and focus on my weekly ezine was IMPOSSIBLE...
until this weekend and this week.

1.  I did some writing.
2.  I re-read a book that practically jumped off my shelf.

Who Moved My Cheese? is the story of four characters living in a "Maze"
who face unexpected change when they discover their "Cheese"
has disappeared.

3.  I wrote again but this time around a phrase from the book, "The Same
Behavior Brings The Same Results." Writing the negative behavior and
     then writing the positive behavior.

4.  Monday night I went to Gloria Englund's Dream Workshops.
Once again I was reminded about focusing on what you want in your
life versus putting out the fire and complaining or worrying about it.
If you'd like to see the 1-minute Dream Workshop movie, email
gloria@gotolifestyleoptions.com and you'll get an idea of what you can
     achieve.

I love this quote...

Don't forget 30 MINUTES OF BRAINSTORMING
OR CONSULTING for your Quick Participation!

One of the many favorite things I enjoy doing at a brainstorming event is sitting with everyone at the end of the day and asking what they're leaving with that they didn't have before.  Here are just a few comments:

Clarity / More $$ for my Business / A Productive Mindset / A Plan /
Affirmation / Freedom leaving behind everything I don't like to do /
A new business title / Resources / New Energy / My stress is gone.

I received a gift with the group brainstorming for me.  My question was, When I say "Adventures In Brainstorming" I can get a response of
"I already have too many ideas."  Knowing these events are so much more than just a list of ideas, I requested a tag line from the group asking them to call out words from their experience on the train.

Here are the ideas I received:

Ideas into Action / Solutions / Directing your Ideas / Get er Done! /
Creative Strategic Planning / Cutting Creative Clutter / Fine-tuning /
Clarifying / Organizing / Refine Your Purpose / Making It Happen /
Encouragement of Getting Together / Sorting Your Thoughts / You're No Longer Brainstorming Alone / Perfecting / Organizing Your Ideas

We may be close to the WOW factor but not quite there yet.  I would love to hear from you if you think one of these fits or if you have a new tag-line from your experience of Adventures.

  • You will be entered into a drawing for a complimentary 30-minute marketing consult or brainstorming for simply participating and,
  • If there is a winner with a WOW tag-line, that person will also win a 30-minute consult.  Please submit your tag-line to beth@marketingontheplayground.com in this format...

I look forward to hearing from you.  Have a GREAT weekend coming up.

p.s.  For past participants and members of Adventures In Brainstorming, look for a personal group to begin for you on Linked In.  It's coming in the
near future.  It will help you with accountability after an event, with connections and with resources.

Marketing, Metaphors and Inspiration

Skinny Marketing = Skinny Sales

This week I was doing some writing and thinking of things I appreciate.
I had taken a cruise to Alaska a few years ago.  It had been a dream of mine
for years.  We actually hit the one of two weeks that Alaska has sun and nice
weather.  I was looking forward to looking over the side of this elegant ship in my fleece jacket which I achieved during spotty weather.  (Odd but true)

You know how I can seem to take every experience and relate it to marketing?  Here goes...

When we docked I took an off-shore rafting excursion in the wilderness.  We were taken by bus, by boat, by bus again and then to our destination of
rafting on a 'skinny' river to see more eagles than you can imagine.  You can
only see that great number of eagles, that close up, ON a skinny river versus
a fat river.  Skinny meaning, very shallow water.  Why do eagles come to a skinny river in Alaska?  The salmon can only swim so far in shallow water before they get stopped, providing a feast for the eagles.

Are you Skinny marketing?  Aka, does your marketing need to reach a deeper number of possible clients or deeper relationships in order to achieve more
sales?  Do you get stopped in your marketing?

Comment From Beth:
When I read Kathy's article I loved it because we could all use a visual to
see ourselves moving forward. Here is an excerpt and then her blog post.
Thanks Kathy, for sharing your experience.

Last week, I was at Walt Disney World in Florida. I had so much fun because creativity and imagination is all around. Vivid colors, flourishing costumes, cheerful music, interactive exhibits, fun rides and dedicated performers
contribute to a magical experience. We enjoyed an international flower
festival at Epcot, featuring multiple live-plant sculptures of Disney characters.
It added a lot of personality and visual appeal to the park, not to mention hundreds more Kodak moments.

Who Moved My Cheese? is the story of four characters living in a "Maze" who
face unexpected change when they discover their "Cheese" has disappeared.
Sniff and Scurry, who are mice, and Hem and Haw, little people the size of mice,
each adapt to change in their "Maze" differently. In fact, one doesn't adapt at all...

This timeless allegory reveals profound truths to individuals and organizations
dealing with change. We each live in a "Maze", a metaphor for the companies or organizations we work with, the communities we live in, the families we love places
where we look for the things we want in life, "Cheese".
