A Note From Beth

I've got a tech issue right now where pictures are not coming through on my email - I don't know if they will come through on yours.  If you don't see pictures throughout this ezine my apologies, it is my system.  I'm checking for 'fixes' to take care of this problem.  Beth

This cold weather has been great reading and learning time.
It seems like it's just the right time of year to take in some new
information or revisit information to deepen the learning.

A dear friend handed me a book that talks about 'sticky' messages.  I have a great example in the Marketing section.  It's fascinating!  I've also been listening to a teleclass about social networking.  Bit by bit it makes more sense.

What have you learned that you can pass on to others?

I've also been very excited about a quarterly event coming up.  It's the Train event - Adventures In Brainstorming for Women In Business.  I can just feel that vintage train around me bringing back those Childhood memories. Combining those memories with contagious inspiration and impact to our business' - it just doesn't get any better than that!
There's still room if you can join us.

Marketing, Metaphors and Inspiration

Create A ‘Sticky’ Message and STICK to it!

I'm reading a book called Made to Stick.  I'm only up to page 39 but the
information is priceless.  It talks about the 'lead' piece of information.

As the story goes, back in the Civil War the reporters needed
to get the updates of the war back to their newspaper.  They
had to use the military telegraph system.  They knew the telegraph could instantly be taken away for mil itary use so they must get their lead information out immediately.  It had to be short and tell the true impact. It had to be 'sticky'.  If too
much was said the 'lead' got buried in their words.

Two Examples:

Southwest Airlines is the LOW Cost Airline.  The book, Made to Stick, gave
an example of how a decision was made by simply saying, "If we say yes to
this idea, will be still be the LOW Cost Airline?"

Another example comes from an Adventures In Brainstorming event.
Rebecca Metz of Modern Inconveniences was looking for a new tag line.
She was ecstatic with what she walked away with.  Tag lines need to
be tested out.  She worked with what she had taken away, tweaked it
and WOW, take a look...

”Turn tech frustration into jubilation”

Look at the knowledge you have about her business AND the emotion of
knowing you won't be held hostage anymore with your technical problems.
There was one more thing.  You should have seen her smile and her energy
when she said it and the reaction of the audience.  Talk about STICKY!

Poised For Year-End Sales
by Paulette Ensign

It's been a common event for a few large tips booklets and related
service sales to happen toward the end of the calendar year, almost
every year. This often happens because a person or company wants to
spend their marketing or professional growth dollars before the year ends.
For many people, the additional tax deduction for marketing materials and professional education is an important part of their overall financial planning
for their business. Small businesses and entrepreneurs benefit from the tax deduction. Many departments of larger corporations live by the
use-it-or-lose-it adage with regards to their budget.   Read more at: http://ezinearticles.com/?Poised-For-Year-End-Sales&id=1695609
